Drinking Water to Lose Weight

“Drinking Water to Lose Weight — Is it a Myth or Fact”

You’ve heard about drinking water to lose weight, and you thought, “Yeah, right.  No way it can be that easy!”

But what if it really was that easy?  What if you can lose weight drinking water — just that simply?

What if it really was true?

It is.  Read on and find out why.

The Desert, Camels and Water

OK, here’s a little story to help you understand why drinking water can help you lose weight.  Imagine that you are in the Sahara Desert, and all you have is a camel and 5 gallons of water.

You’d gotten lost, and while you know that there’s an oasis not too far away, but you don’t know how long it’s going to take to get there.  Maybe an hour.  Two.  Maybe a day.  Hard to tell; you just need to get moving and find it.

You’ve got 5 gallons of water with you, and even though you’re thirsty, you drink very little.  After all, you don’t know how long you’ll be riding your camel in the hot sun.  You need to conserve water so that you’ll have enough until you get to the oasis.

So you’re carrying around all this water, in case you get stuck.  And when you get to the oasis (3 hours later), you still have 4.5 gallons of water.  Water you could have drunk and so felt better and cooler in the sun.

Why You Can Lose Weight Drinking Water

Now that you’re back from the desert, let’s think about how it relates to your body, and how it reacts when it doesn’t get enough water.

When your body doesn’t know when it will get water, it goes into conservation mode. Instead of releasing it the normal way, your body retains water…generally in the vicinity of your waist. What does that feel like?

Bloated.  Uncomfortable.  Irritable.  Sounds familiar?

You don’t need to take a diuretic to flush all that water out.  You just need to drink some!

Water Weight or Losing Weight?

Yes indeed, the first several pounds might just be retained water, and not fat.  But let me ask you a question — why would you want to carry around any extra weight, even if it was “just water weight”?

But water serves another function as well that can help you lose fat.  And that is because water serves to flush out toxins from your body.  When toxins aren’t allowed to stay in your body, your health improves, which can also include helping to reset your metabolism.

Water also, of course, helps you feel fuller, so that you tend to eat less.

Drinking Water to Lose Weight – How Much?

So exactly how much water fo you need to drink in order to lose weight?  You should be drinking at least half your body weight in ounces of water wach day.

So if you weigh 160 pounds, you need at least 80 ounces.  200 pounds and you need 100 ounces.

You’re probably thinking, “I can’t drink that much water in a day!”  Well, do you want to lose weight?

If you don’t like the taste of tap water, there are options.  Bottled water is one.  You can also add lemon, lime or mint to your water.  Get a special glass that you really like and drink up!

Does it Have to be Water?

Well, yes.  There isn’t much of a substitute for water, when it comes to your body.

Coffee and regular tea are out, as are diet drinks.  Juices don’t work either.

In a pinch, you can substitue some green tea for a couple glasses.  And if you can’t do it any other way, you can use a glass or two of  Crystal Lite for replacements.

In other words, even if you drink coffee or diet sodas or iced tea, you still need to drink water on top of all those amounts.

Drinking water to lose weight — see, it is true!  Now go and get yourself a glass of water and…bottoms up!
