Lose weight fast and safe – it is possible?  After all, it seems like it’s a contradiction – losing weight fast usually isn’t safe. Or is it?  Let’s take a look.

What is Losing Weight Fast?

On any diet, you’re likely to lose weight fast the first week or two, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing!  It helps to keep your spirits up and is definitely encouraging.  It isn’t unknown to lose 10 pounds in the first two weeks (I’ll take that any day.)

But losing weight fast afterwards — that can be another story.  In general, a consistent 2 pounds a week is considered fast, although that number can vary slightly, depending on how much weight you have to lose, and how active you are.  For example, if you need to lose 80 pounds, 3 pounds a week may be safe (at least at first).

What about some of these super-fast weight loss diets that are widely advertised?  Well, if you’re otherwise healthy, these diets might be OK for a week or so, but don’t stay on it for long if you want to stay healthy.  One example might be

Losing weight is a bit stressful on your body; actually, losing weight can be a lot stressful.  And keeping up your health is a great part of losing weight safely.  What does that mean?

Some of it is making sure you get all your daily nutrients.  And while multi-vitamins like One-a-Day and Centrum are better than nothing, you’re really better off trotting off to your local health food store.  (Hint – “drug store vitamins” can use synthetic vitamins instead of the natural stuff.)  If you don’t have a local health food store, you can try Puritan’s Pride (my personal favorite) or Swanson’s online.

Lose Weight Fast and Safe

One diet plan you might want to consider is the Medifast diet, which has been clinically proven to be safe and effective. Granted, a liquid diet isn’t for everyone, but if you need a diet where you don’t have to think of what you need to eat, Medifast may be right for you.

Don’t Rush Weight Loss

I know, you want your excess weight gone now.  Sadly, there are no magic bullets (or I would be in that line) when it comes to weight loss.  And although it’s an old quote – you didn’t put it on overnight so it won’t come off overnight – it’s all too true.

So what’s the best way to lose weight fast and safe?  It’s a diet plan that you will go on and stick to.  Here’s an example.

Say you have to lose 50 pounds.  If you go on a sensible weight loss diet you can stick with and lose 2 pounds a week on average, in about 6 months all your excess fat is gone.

If you go on a fad diet that is too restrictive and lose 20 pounds fast, then go off of, 6 months from now you can be down 20 pounds, 10 pounds, none, or you could have gained weight!
